Bernard B. Kerik
Bernard B. Kerik has over 30 years of distinguished service in law enforcement and federal service. He was appointed by the Bush administration to serve as Iraq's interim Minister of the Interior and the Senior Policy Advisor to the U.S. Presidential Envoy to Iraq's Coalition Provisional Authority. Arriving in Baghdad just days after coalition forces invaded, Mr. Kerik was responsible for reconstituting Iraq's Interior Ministry, including the national police service and border enforcement.

Prior to his service in Iraq, Mr. Kerik was the 40th Police Commissioner of the City of New York. Appointed by Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and responsible for 55,000 uniformed and civilian employees and a $3.2 billion annual budget, his sixteen-month term was marked by dramatic reductions in crime, innovative management, and his very public and highly acclaimed oversight of the rescue, recovery and investigation of the World Trade Center attack of September 11, 2001.

Mr. Kerik also served as Commissioner of the New York City Department of Correction where he was responsible for an $830 million budget, a uniformed and civilian workforce of 13,000, and approximately 125,000 annual inmate admissions. Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government brought international acclaim to Mr. Kerik through its Innovations in American Government Award Program for his creation of a new management and accountability program for his department.

Mr. Kerik was a military police officer for the U.S. Army in Korea, as a trainer of Special Forces and Special Operations at the JFK Unconventional Warfare Center at Ft. Bragg, and spent four years working on various security assignments in the Middle East. As a New York City Police Detective assigned to the US Drug Enforcement Administration, he was responsible for one of the most substantial drug investigations in United States history against the Cali Cartel.

He has earned more than 100 medals and awards for heroic and meritorious service, including the NYPD's Medal for Valor and a Presidential Commendation for Heroism from President Ronald Reagan. In 2002 by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, with an honorary appointment as Commander of the Most Excellent Royal Order of the British Empire (CBE).

Mr. Kerik presently serves as a member of the United States Homeland Security Advisory Council.
